I found out recently that my favourite artist, Leonid Afremov died in August last year. I own a painting of his already – Melody of the night – and absolutely love it. All his work is impressionistic and he worked mostly with a pallet knife and oils.
I decided to see if I could replicate his style in watercolour.
Here is the original I wanted to replicate:
Because I’m working with watercolours, my version is muted and lacks that vibrant feel in all of Afremov’s work.
Watercolour makes those vibrant colours difficult (at least it does with my cheaper paint) but does lend itself to a more impressionistic feel. Probably not one to hang on the wall, but I’m glad I made the attempt!
